Artworks from Sylvia Galos
Abstraction, shaped by spontaneity
A particularly calm mood, non-objective and hypothetical, is common to all the works. Sylvia Galos usually begins her expressive paintings without a clear idea. Impulse-driven, compositions emerge through spontaneous brushstrokes that consistently reveal her abstract-expressive line. Through layered composition, her paintings often experience a subsequent continuation of the lines and forms laid out at the beginning. In this way, the diffuse becomes concrete and the concrete abstract.
Despite expressive brushwork, her painting is accessible without explanation and stylistically can be classified without doubt as informal painting.
The artist tactfully explores contrasts with strong colours and often experiments with a colour palette dominated by light colours, whose monochrome reflects a remarkable liveliness. At the same time, the rather stronger colour areas lend a special depth. A final glaze also allows deeper layers to shine through and opens up a pictorial space all of its own. In her mixed media work, Galos prefers to add coarse materials to create haptic effects of the surface structure.
For the artist from Eisenstadt (AT), her work as an artist means dealing with her innermost being. She processes feelings, longings but also doubts about her own personality.
In her paintings she invites the viewer to go in search of traces in order to find his or her own individual associations.
