Triptych (three- & multi-part complete works)
Multi-part complete compositions of modern pictures & paintings loosen up the static arrangement of a work of art and usually contribute to a special arrangement across motifs. The composition of several parts of a painting creates a complete work which can reinforce the changing dynamics of a motif. A triptych is a three-part work of art. Max Beckmann, among others, created these works as early as the 1930s, which caused a great sensation at the time. His triptych "Departure" in the style of Expressionism is one of a total of 215 works by Beckmann. It consists of three individual pictures with the titles Das Schloß (left), Die Treppe (right) and Heimkehr (centre picture) and is in the MoMA in New York.
