The life and work of MORDILLO
Immerse yourself in the fascinating universe of one of the greatest masters of cartoons - Guillermo Mordillo, affectionately known as MORDILLO. His unmistakable bulbous-nosed figures, vibrant color palette and wordless yet expressive depictions of love, soccer, golf and surreal scenarios reflect a mastery that weaves creative simplicity with a complexity of meanings created over decades of experience and artistic development.
This is the chronicle of a life that followed a passion for drawing, beginning in his childhood and continuing to the ripe old age of 84. Growing up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a humble home of Spanish immigrants, he began creating cartoons at the kitchen table at the age of five. The magic of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and the Walt Disney characters sparked his love for the world of cartoons and animation.
He drew his first comic strip, "Pascasio the Beggar", at the age of 13 and ventured into self-portraits. His insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to obtain an illustrator's certificate at journalism school at the age of 16. During his studies, he illustrated children's stories and fairy tales, further developed his career as an illustrator and published works in local magazines.
The trip took him to Lima, Peru, where he worked for the advertising company McCann Erickson and discovered golf, which would later shape his work. In New York, he worked on animations for Paramount Pictures and created greeting cards for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City before moving to Paris in 1963 and concentrating on illustrations and comics for renowned magazines such as Elle, Paris-Match and Pif Gadget.
