Wood sculptor & Sculpture artist René Theurich
The sculptor and painter René Theurich was born in 1973 and lives in See near Niesky, in Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia, together with his wife and children. Since 2005 he has been working as a freelance artist in his studio, a 200-year-old loam cottage with an extension. He turned to wood as a material at an early age after making his first attempts at painting (comic art). Increasingly, he felt that modern sculptures became his artistic metier, as he felt more and more comfortable in this material. He quickly gave up his professional work as a furniture restorer to enter the public eye as a freelance artist in 2005. His first works were still round and soft. Later, he discovered angular, rough lines for himself and gave the fire the corresponding freedom. Later, he began to work with stone as a sculptor, and around 2009 he created his first corresponding works. Then, relying on his inner destiny, he devoted himself even more intensively to art, searching for meaning. He approached it autodidactically in theory and practice. Various side projects such as learning various musical instruments and some music band themes drove him more and more to his real desire - the visual arts. He intensified his work as an artist. So now he works with chain saw and hand tools to produce new objects. More works with steel and concrete followed. Theurich abstracts without neglecting the body. His figurative works hint at content-related discussions of real-life themes, but remain inwardly real.
