Susann Kasten-Jerke "It remains a constant dialogue."
"My paintings are emotional snapshots,..." says Susann Kasten-Jerke. "In my bright studio, the ideas find their way onto paper. Again and again and always anew. Playing with colours has thus become part of my life. In some exhibitions and galleries, art lovers have the chance to discover me and my work."
The graduate of the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts lives the complexity in her paintings. A wafer-thin multi-layered picture structure of forms, colours & materials that mutually condition and inspire each other. In this way, a tension between the elements is created in an unforced way, which builds up delicately and powerfully. Seams mark interfaces, old connections are loosened, new contexts decipher complex ideas. Experimentation with forms, colours and materials determines the works. Susann Kasten-Jerke defines painting as an experiment, an approach to solving everyday questions, as a confrontation. "I don't chase trends, I'm too good for that. I'd rather inspire people, sharpen their eye for detail, paint a smile on someone's face - those are my ideas of art and entertainment." Born in Schleswig-Holstein, she processes the everyday, the happenings around her in her paintings, shifting effortlessly from the concrete to the abstract. The works generally revolve around a colourful, delicate choice of colours combined with strength. Her lines and forms set separating accents between gradients and colour plays. The expressionist with modern leanings succeeds in creating the illusion of spatiality. The secret of this imagination: the wafer-thin and multi-layered composition of the picture. A way of working that conveys a lightness in the paintings to the viewer.
Her painting is the convincing play between concentrated detail and wide, calm surfaces that interact with each other and create a striking tension, a perspective that appeals to many viewers. The artist describes the effect of her painting on the recipient as an "ART of breathing through". "To achieve exactly that, I immerse myself in my own world. In the protected aura of my studio, I can create ideas and inspiration takes its free course. The paintings emerge without following any particular idea - there remains a constant dialogue. There is a certain euphoria during the working process, in the confrontation with materials and motifs, which leads Susann Kasten-Jerke into the heights and abysses of abstraction. "The real life takes place in art," says the Kiel native. "Painting enriches my life, already a splash of colour, a surface can touch me! >> learn more about her exhibitions
