Helpful tips for buying art

To help you make your purchase decision, we recommend two simple approaches that will help you better visualise the work you have chosen in your own four walls:

•  On the one hand, it is quite easy to print out an image of your painting in colour on an A4 sheet and hold it at the right distance in front of the wall in question. This will give you a fairly accurate idea of how the work of art will look in your room:

• It is even easier to drag the desired artwork on your smartphone or tablet (for example with your iPhone or iPad) to the corresponding size and then hold the mobile device at the desired distance in front of the corresponding wall. Our photo files are specially optimised for this purpose:

If you do not achieve your goal with these two simple methods, we can also create an individual photo montage for you.

Still undecided? Our service for you - the photo montage!

You have discovered an abstract painting in our online art gallery that you particularly like and which you might want to buy online, but you are still undecided whether it will actually fit in the intended space? Simply send us a photo of the wall on which your new work of art is to hang later. We will insert it in a space-optimised way and send it back to you by e-mail. You decide in peace and let yourself be inspired by our suggestions.
Despite our attractively designed room view (installation example) in every offer, it is sometimes difficult to imagine the corresponding painting in one's own four walls. Every room is individual, has its own proportions and a wide variety of furnishings, and despite a good imagination, it is often difficult to finally decide on a well-considered art purchase. We would be happy to help you find your new favourite work of art, which you will enjoy for a long time.

Have pictures painted after photo montage

If you are still undecided and would like to save yourself the time and trouble of a return shipment despite the right of return, we will prepare a completely individual room view of your living environment with your favourite work in advance.

All you have to do is send us a photo of the room with the wall on which the painting is to be mounted and we will add the corresponding work or works (if you cannot decide between several works of art). This virtual picture example gives you the opportunity to discuss at home with your family or friends which painting is the right one for you and will certainly make your purchase decision easier.

Using the enclosed wooden wedges - how to stretch your canvas correctly

If you have purchased an original canvas painting, it will be delivered with 8 small wooden wedges if the work was stretched on a wooden stretcher frame. These are usually packed separately and stapled to the back of the stretcher. It is important that you keep these wooden wedges and do not dispose of them unintentionally. From time to time it happens that certain materials change with time. The natural material wood in particular can expand or contract over time, depending on the room climate. It can therefore happen that a drum-hard canvas, which is still very taut at the beginning, gives way somewhat over the years and needs to be re-stretched. For this purpose you need the wooden wedges mentioned above. How to use them is explained below:

Before you start working, place the painting or the covered stretcher frame carefully and backwards on a soft surface so that your artwork is not damaged.

The wooden wedges are now inserted at the back of the canvas into the slots provided (the so-called "groove cutters") in the corners and made to stretch the canvas by hammering them in particularly carefully (cf. photos).

The same process is now repeated on the opposite side. When this has been done on all four corners, the canvas should be firmly stretched again. For safety, we recommend placing a piece of cardboard under the wooden wedges to avoid possible damage to their frame.

What is the best way to attach the canvases to the wall? - Tips for a professional hanging of the paintings

We recommend only 2 screws per canvas (countersunk screws are preferred) or sturdy nails (depending on the surface or wall condition) up to a depth of about 1.5 cm and simply hang the stretcher as shown. For deep gallery stretcher frames, leave the screws protruding approx. 2.5 to 3 cm to achieve an ideal attachment.

If you change the artworks more frequently, it may be advisable to use a gallery rail system. The works then hang freely on two or more ropes and can be easily exchanged.

More tips on the care and conservation of acrylic and oil paintings:

With the above-mentioned wooden wedges, not only can the frame be tightened drum-hard again; if the frame is slightly warped in a torsion-like manner (for example, one corner is sticking out from the wall when hanging), you can counteract this by hammering the wooden wedges into only two diagonally opposite corners (in this case, you only use a total of four of the eight wedges supplied per stretcher). In this way, a countermovement is achieved with simple handling, which counteracts a possible misalignment of the warped stretcher.

Small imperfections, such as dents or pressure marks on the canvas itself, can be softened or eliminated by spraying the back lightly with water. Experience has shown that this works very well with a standard flower sprayer. Until it is completely dry on the following day, the canvas will then permanently tighten itself and unsightly dents and impressions will disappear.
