About the artist Marita Tobner

The mixture of formal perfection and seemingly pure elegance as well as a pronounced love of painting characterize the works of artist Marita Tobner. The painter creates snapshots against the backdrop of the insights she has gained into everyday life; she skilfully combines trivial things to create her very own new arrangements. Her style is unmistakable: Draconically and in perfect composition she directs the viewer's gaze to manifold aspects of human existence, their nature and their interconnections and contradictions to and among each other. This view on the origin of her creative points connects many of her works. All motifs live from the unique representation of an instinctive controversy between calm and dynamics.

Tobner does not see herself as a classical art painter, her invigorating painting opens up much more to the viewer: in her works she plays with the visible and the hidden at the same time. She combines floral elements with figurative ones and thus creates a lifelike, mostly colour-intensive picture composition. Marita Tobner, born in 1961, lives and works as a freelance artist in Ulm. She is in demand at international art fairs in the USA, Switzerland and Italy and in the meantime has been mentioned in art projects in New York Mention.

Working method - combination of woodcut and painting
Born in Ulm, Marita Tobner has dedicated her art to a significant theme: The love of life. To this end, she collects experiences from her everyday life, which she compresses into her pictures in a constructive and planning-oriented manner; in the process, visual images of her everyday life and her very own stories emerge. Her pictorial ideas are not only derived from experiences she has had, but also from literature. Characteristic for the artist is also the fact that the titles of her works are often already determined before production and  individual stylistic elements are only searched for afterwards. In this way, new intuitively composed elements always flow into the composition of the picture. Marita Tobner deliberately places abstract and figurative elements in an exciting dialogue. Currently, the artist is working on a far-reaching art project that is important to her personally: she would like to intensify her defined field of tension by focusing on the relationships and interconnections between people. However, her elementary way of working does not change at all: currently, new mixed media works are created in her studio in Ulm, always in combination of woodcuts and painting.
Marita Tobner herself says about her art: "My works are created serially in mixed media, i.e. a mixture of acrylic, oil, wood or linoleum cut, collage, painting and drawing. The intention is to achieve maximum variation - also in the image statement - with the different techniques and materials. My intention is to make visible the inner experience in dialogue with the outer realities of life of the woman per se. To uncover the interconnections and also contradictions of human existence and thus to put them up for discussion is a great concern of mine."

Marita Tobner is a member of the art associations Neu-Ulm, Senden, Künstlergilde Ulm, [Kun:st] International Stuttgart, Crossart International Cologne, as well as the Freie Künstlergruppe Ulm/Neu-Ulm.
