Artworks from Peggy Berger
Beyond the classic genre
The place of life and work of the self-proclaimed "hunter & collector", born in 1971, is Dresden. Peggy Berger follows her mission statement "measure - disassemble and reassemble" in every respect. Armed with a smartphone, scenes of everyday life are captured on the retina and later on canvas in the studio. In her light-flooded Dresden studio, the artist creates new spaces on large-format canvases that extend seamlessly into real space. A confusion of proportions and perspectives. As in a search picture, the viewer has to decipher what is actually being shown. |
Whether it is a macro-figurative representation, an architectural-landscape composition or imaginative circus scenery: Peggy Berger finds her forms of expression and themes beyond the classical genre.
"When the dialogue bears fruit" is what the artist calls her cycle of paintings. A subjectively experienced picture carousel of abstract landscape shaping over collage-like figurative painting. On the one hand, cool restraint and a sparse colour palette - on the other, exuberantly ecstatic in form & pigment lust. Her passion is oil painting, which, in contrast to what one might expect, is often applied in a breathy way instead of opaque. This gives the works something floating and even fragile. One can distance oneself and at the same time fully immerse oneself in the pictorial worlds. The joy of playing within the existing format is evident in the works. One can be curious when oversized subjects take over the space.
The graphic designer realised her destiny at a very early age and studied from then on. During her studies at the HfBK in Dresden (Professor Max Uhlig), the focus was always on the theme of landscape. Within the last 10 years, the transition of landscapes to figuration and the combination of both types of play in collage-like medium and large formats has been pushing her. Her working method is largely serial and bound to current themes. Urbanity - strangeness - coolness. And despite everything ... her homeland is often the recurring subject.
