Urban art - public space as a canvas

Is urban art legal?

Urban art as an art form is not illegal in principle, but there are many aspects that need to be considered in connection with the implementation of urban art. As a rule, graffiti, murals or other forms of urban art are interventions in public space that must be approved by the owners or management of the buildings or areas concerned.

If urban art is applied without permission, it can be considered illegal graffiti tagging and punishable by fines or even imprisonment. However, some cities also have legal graffiti areas or permitting processes that allow artists to work in public spaces without breaking the law.
