She leaves nothing to chance. Petra Klos, 63, formulates her technically perfected paintings in an elaborate work process. Using particularly broad brushstrokes, she applies the oil paint to the canvas in ever new layers. She revels in color, with some works featuring more than 100 different tones. "As soon as I notice a color combination in a magazine advertisement or on the street, I make a note of it or photograph it. Then I apply the colors in a certain order," says Klos. Days, weeks and months pass in the process. The rich application of paint gives the pictures the character of a relief. The artist sees her works as objects rather than two-dimensional paintings.
Klos became interested in abstract painting very early on. She brings disparate things together, loves experimenting with materials and has a pronounced feeling for the exemplary arrangement of color and structure. Using stylistically confident and symptomatic painting techniques, the artist manages to express these qualities in color and form with a pronounced passion and enthusiasm. A style that encourages reflection and personal interpretation.
