The artist Petra Klos
In her pictorial compositions, Petra Klos succeeds in constantly reprocessing her present emotions, fantasies and moods. Power, assertiveness, energy, as well as the artist's immediate feeling for color are consistently reflected in her abstractions. She brings together disparate things, loves to experiment with materials, and has a keen sense of exemplary arrangement of color and texture. Using stylish and symptomatic painting techniques, the artist manages to express these qualities in color and form with pronounced passion and enthusiasm. A style that inspires reflection, to one's own interpretations. The Berlin-born artist says about herself: "For me, the picture surface is "a field open on all sides", so that many of my works - in spite of their limitations imposed by the format - appear as a section of a larger whole. In all of this, I prefer simplicity in form and consistently aim for the effect of coloration and texture in the surface, with the color red playing an important role alongside earth tones."
In the meantime, the purely emotional, non-representational works are repeatedly supplemented by abstract landscapes. The impressions Petra Klos gets on her travels, the artist tries to give back through her own interpretation. Thus one finds in the listing of her works beside the completely non-representational, often monochrome and color-reduced works, abstract, quite colorful landscape and coastal pictures. She deliberately abandons the real depiction of what she has seen and allows her impressions to flow into the colour compositions.
First successes - 2002 Klos received the Plaidter art price - brought the artist some peace and security. From then on, she began to work more spontaneously, more directly, incorporating more emotionality and freedom. The artist follows her own appointed path independently of any trends.
