American artist Ed Heck lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. After completing his art studies at the School of Visual Arts (BFA) in New York, he first worked as an illustrator at the American Museum of Natural History. His "first big step" into the art world was the Artexpo art fair in New York in 1999, which was a great success for Ed Heck.
His naïve, childish and colourful pictures in the neo-pop art style captivate the viewer with their satire, everyday comedy and charm. The simple lines that made Ed Heck famous are sometimes not easy to realise even for himself.
"Children draw like this. We adults are repressed and want to be as precise as possible," Ed Heck said. Sometimes he intuitively wants to put too much detail into his pictures, which date back to his days as an illustrator. On the one hand, he finds it difficult to reduce it to the essentials, but at the same time it is a kind of drive to make it perfect. Ed Heck sometimes works on 15-20 works at the same time, because the monochrome background needs some time to dry. Ed Heck works completely alone on his art. His work is 100% Ed Heck.
