Besides Leipzig, Valencia was the Pop artist's second home in the early 2000s. Peter Sander studied art on the south-east coast of Spain at the University de Bella Artes and now works as a freelance artist in a very contemporary style. His Pop Art-heavy artworks are mainly dedicated to people from contemporary history. In addition, the artist deals with the places and impressions of his travels and his love of sport.
The basis of his current work is based in particular on his earlier creative phase and the urge to explore his environment intensively and in great detail. He uses everyday things and objects, mainly old or used advertising materials, which he depicts in excerpts in an alienated way. His illustrative painting style is characteristic of his works. Again and again, popular everyday themes are found in a restrained colourfulness as a design element. The unmistakable one-offs seem to possess a pictorial language all of their own. Just as Robert Rauschenberg once included the audience in his art, Sander also plays with the recipients in front of the canvas. They gain insights into the manipulative character of the mass media that would otherwise have been denied them.
Using conventional techniques such as silkscreen and painting, Peter Sander composes his works to great effect, especially by combining them. All works, even if some of them are created in small series, are always unique one-offs.
