Artworks from Edelgard Wittkowski
Intention and working method
Since Edelgard Wittkowski successfully completed her painting studies at the Novalis-Hochschulverein, the artist has been working freelance in her studio near Düsseldorf. In her work, the artist pays special attention to contemporary, informal painting. In doing so, she brings together the expressive strengths of colour to create intense compositions, so that lines and surfaces emerge from it and are brought together in a balanced, harmonious arrangement. All motifs are thereby always created from the line, according to the artist herself. |
"Just as life can only arise from life, every curved line has its origin in itself." The lines that intertwine in her paintings and sometimes gather centrally often give rise to broad forms and outlines that follow the laws of nature. In doing so, she seeks out phenomena and elements in the plant kingdom that can only be perceived and felt through intensive observation. In addition, the artist has developed a method of working in which applied areas of colour are artistically joined together in such a way that the quality of the colour emerges from the forms, some of which are superimposed. In this way, new and changing pictorial compositions are created layer by layer, which evoke a very special atmosphere of their own.
