Thoughts on "Uferlos" 2016 by René Theurich

Result of the pictures and conversations with refugees in connection with thoughts on, among other things, own, German history. Through the wild, blazing, cold water. Driven by the naked will to live. Proud human being, in the vastness of space, pushing yourself forward in the ocean of possibilities, wanting to reach new shores. Leave everything behind, have a goal before your eyes, want to live! You consistently go your way, unperturbed by dangers and challenges. You see in the sea the only possibility! You carry your decision to set out like the rudder in your hands. You want to leave. You will wander and drift. Will you find? Are you driven by adventure, by exploration? Indispensability? You are proud, conscious of human existence and at the same time an individual who desires protection. You have a right to your saving shore. Driven by your longing for the goal you conquer all adversities. You have the goal before your eyes, within reach and yet unreachable. Homeless, abandoned, shoreless? Will you ever touch your shore? Is the only option left for all of us to drift, to search, to stay on the road, to not arrive in order to survive? Are we all fugitives?

Shoreless is the ocean of possibilities.
Shoreless is the tragedy of war.
Shoreless are the fears.
Shoreless are the moments of bliss of being safe.
Shoreless is the number of refugees worldwide.
Shoreless are the reactions to the fates of the refugees.
Shoreless are the truths.
Shoreless is the wave of willingness to help, especially in our Germany.
Shoreless are the seas of shed tears.
Shoreless is the suppression.
Shoreless are the reports of what we have experienced and what we have been through.
Shoreless is our prosperity.
Shoreless are the fears.
Shoreless is stupidity.
Shoreless are the criminal machinations of the traffickers.
Shoreless is the number of shattered dreams.
Shoreless are the broken existences.
Shoreless is the lust for power.
Shoreless are the warmongers and demagogues.
Shoreless is our imagination!
Shoreless are our new possibilities!
Shoreless is love!
UFERLOS...!

The sculptor and painter René Theurich, born in 1973, lives in See near Niesky, in Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia, together with his wife and children. He works since 2005 as a freelance artist in his studio, a 200-year-old clay cottage with annex. He devoted himself to the material wood already early after he made his first attempts in painting (comic art). Increasingly, he felt that modern sculptures and sculpture became his artistic metier, as he felt more and more comfortable in this material.

He quickly gave up his professional work as a furniture restorer to enter the public eye as a freelance artist in 2005. His first works were still round and soft. Later, he discovered angular, rough lines for himself and gave the fire the appropriate freedom. Later he began to deal sculpturally with stone, around 2009 he created his first corresponding works and then, relying on his inner destiny, he devoted himself even more intensively to art, searching for meaning. Autodidactically he approached this in theory and practice. Various side projects such as learning various musical instruments and some music band themes drove him more and more to his real desire - the visual arts. He intensified his work as an artist. So now he works with chain saw and hand tools to produce new objects. More works with steel and concrete followed. Theurich abstracts without neglecting the body. His figurative works hint at contentual confrontations with lifelike themes, but remain inwardly real.
