Famous Artist Markus Lüpertz
Markus Lüpertz was born in Bohemia in 1941 in the middle of the war and came to Germany with his parents in 1948 at the age of seven. His artistic career began as a bottle label painter.
His subsequent studies at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf ended prematurely after various controversies arose. However, his teachers at the time fired him for "lack of talent". His real career as an artist began in 1962 when he moved to West Berlin. Today, the 69-year-old artist is considered one of the most important and controversial contemporary German artists. The Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn dedicated a major retrospective to him in 2009 following the retirement of the director of the renowned Düsseldorf Art Academy, which he had headed for more than 20 years.
