Artworks from Sebastian Hartmann
Gesture, Abstraction and Informel
After a two-year diversions in Dresden, Erding-born artist Sebastian Hartmann lives and works as a freelance painter, graphic artist and photographer in the blue country near the expressionist town of Murnau am Staffelsee. The self-taught artist focuses on uninhibited experimentation with materials and their unconventional processing.
In addition to oil, fine acrylic, pigments or stone powder, he also uses elements such as rust or plaster, which he successively applies to the canvas with brushes, sponges and palette knives and plays with until they are completed. Out of the "directed" coincidence, predominantly expressive and multi-layered works emerge, which allow for the most varied and versatile interpretations. The viewer can thus enter into a subjective bond with the abstract and emotionally strong pictures through his imagination. Sebastian Hartmann sees a model for his naturalistic-abstract art in the structures, colours and forms of nature, old industry or buildings and transfers these to his works through the targeted use of appropriate materials.
