 Abstract painting creates itself exclusively from the artist's state of consciousness and constitution and has no real existing models. This essentially distinguishes paintings of a non-objective (abstract) realisation from other art styles such as impressionism, cubism or expressionism. In the latter art styles, for example, living beings, landscapes or real objects serve as schematic models for realisation. Depending on the respective art style, these are changed in colour and form, but they are often interpretations of reality. Accordingly, the abstract art form consciously renounces any reference to pictoriality and material models. For example, colours become even more intense than in reality, as in this work of art:

 Pioneers of this free art form include Kandinsky (1866-1944) and Kupka (1871-1957).
